 OVERVIEW
Leonardo da Vinci

Human Factors Engineering (HFE) deals with the design of systems that people use at work and in leisure. It ensures that systems, jobs, products, interfaces and environments are designed to match the physical and mental abilities and limitations of their intended users. HFE is the key factor in ensuring the effectiveness, safety, usability, acceptability and success of human-system integrations. It is therefore, important for engineers and designers to understand the capabilities and limitations of the users, such that systems are designed to enhance the performance and safety of the users.

This Masters in Human Factors Engineering presents an exciting and challenging programme, covering a wide range of topics including: Human Centred Design, Ergonomics, Occupational Health and Safety, Human factors in Virtual Reality and Visualisation, Designing effective Info-Comm Systems, Methods in Usabillity Evaluation, etc.

Most graduates from M.Sc. HFE work in Singapore in one of the following organizations.

Educational Institutions including: Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, and Nanyang Polytechnic.

Government Organizations including: Defense Medical Environmental Research Institute, Defense Science and Technology Agency, Land Transport Authority, Ministry of Manpower, RSAF Aeromedical Centre, Singapore General Hospital and SPRING.

Industry including: Autodesk, Comfort Del Gro Engineering, Creative Technology, Dell Computers, ExxonMobile, Hewlett Packard, Human Factors International, Mobile One, Motorola, Shell, Singapore Airlines, SingTel, Philips Design and Singapore Technologies.

Consulting companies including: Damai Sciences, In-Situ Research, Micro Usability and UserXperience.

With the fulfillment of programme requirements, you will be awarded the Degree of Master of Science (Human Factors Engineering) from NTU.

International Students

International students have to apply for a Student's Pass to pursue a programme of study full-time in Singapore unless they are holders of a valid immigration pass (i.e. Employment Pass/Dependent Pass/Work permit) issued by the Singapore Immigration & Registration Department. The Student's Pass is only issued to full-time students and not to part-time students. International students may therefore only apply for admission as full-time students. International students who wish to pursue the programme on a part-time basis should obtain employment in Singapore first before applying for admission to the University and should ensure that they are permitted to work and reside in Singapore throughout the programme of their study by the Singapore Immigration & Registration.

Passport holders of specific countries, including China and India, must have a valid visa before entering Singapore.

The University will assist successful international applicants in their applications for the Student's Pass. The costs, if any, connected with such application will be borne by the student.

The estimated monthly expenses of an international student in Singapore are as follows:

Meals (University canteens and hawker centers)

$300 - $400

Accommodation

$200 - $400

Transport expenses (locally)

$100 - $150

Other expenses (stationery, toiletries, laundry, recreation, etc)
