The MP2079 Engineering Innovation and Design (EID) course is an integral part of the second-year MAE curriculum. The course enables students to experience some of the practical learning in preparation for an engineering or technopreneur career in the new Knowledge Based Economy. This course encourages students to propose team-based projects, plan and develop the team ideas under the guidance of mentors and as such excites the imagination of aspiring engineers, innovators and technopreneurs. All year 2 Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering students will be required to take MP2079 EID in AY09/10 Semester 1 and 2.

Project Description
So far 23 teams (out of 92) have not yet entered their project description into Studentlink. The description can be added under the heading ‘Draft Project Outline’. Once we have all the project details then the process of technician allocation can begin.

Past examples of projects
With the request from some groups which are unsure about what a ‘winning’ project looks like, an additional document showcasing the 2008 winners has been posted here.

For those students who have been accepted on GIP or INSTEP for next semester
Could you please respond to the email request to confirm that you are accepting the offer? Until you do so we cannot de-register you from EID and identify which groups might have a shortfall in team members.

C1 Assignment
Just to clarify, only one page in hard copy format should be submitted as your assignment in weeks 11 to 13. The place to submit it is the CAE laboratory located at N3.2 Level 1. Please ensure that your name is added in the correct place (bottom right box on the drawing). The animation/colour rendering aspects of SolidWorks are not being assessed for C1 although many groups will probably make use of these functions for the final prototype and Open House presentation.

C2 Assignment
Thanks to all those who have completed the on-line quiz. For the group assignment which is due in next week, some examples of past submissions have been posted here  as well as the C2 Edventure site. Please remember to submit your innovative product together with a hardcopy write-up (2 pages in length – you can include 1 or 2 photos) to the Design office (venue: N3.2-B1-02) on Wednesday 28th October 2009, afternoon. You can claim back the cost of purchase of the prototype from your EID fund so hold on to the receipt!!
