COllective INtelligence (COIN) using the method of Probability Collectives (PC):
There are many complex systems in science and engineering such as project scheduling, manufacturing and scheduling, logistics, cybernetics, internet search, earthquake prediction, climate change, etc. Such systems generally have many components and it is difficult to understand the whole system only by knowing each component and its individual behavior. This is because any move by a component affects the further decisions/moves by other components and so on.
Traditionally, such complex systems were seen as centralized systems, but as the number of components grows, complexity may grow exponentially, it become necessary to handle the systems using distributed and decentralized optimization approach. This makes the entire system to be seen as a collection of sub-systems or a Multi-Agent System (MAS). The major challenge is to make these agents work in a coordinated way, optimizing their local goals and eventually the global system objective. Furthermore, although the population based algorithms such as Genetic Algorithms (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Wasp Colony System, Swarm-bot, etc. have been used solving complex problems, as the complexity grew these problems become quite tedious to be handled using these algorithms.
One of the frameworks through which such distributed, decentralized and cooperative approach can be implemented is COllective INtelligence (COIN) using the method of Probability Collectives (PC) which has deep connections to Game Theory, Statistical Physics, and Optimization. It was first proposed by Dr. David H. Wolpert in 1999 in a Technical Report presented to NASA and was further elaborated by his PhD student (now Dr.) Stefan R. Bieniawski in 2005. The PC is found to be an obvious tool that can deal with this increasing complexity because of its ability to treat the problem by decomposing it into sub-problems. This is an interesting characteristic of PC which makes the user to deal with a variety of large problems more efficiently and in a more simplified way. The related discussion can be found in our recent publications.

Thesis: Optimization of Connection Weights of Artificial Neural Networks by Layer Partition and Genetic Algorithms
Two methods of optimizing feed-forward Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) through Genetic Algorithm (GA) are presented. The connection weights of ANN are extracted out. The functions formulated having connection weights as variables and are optimized through GA. The optimized connection weights replace the old ANN connection weights. The second method is a novel approach of dividing ANN into separate layers and optimizing output of each layer through GA. Both methods produced encouraging results.

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (1883-1966)
An extraordinary Hindu scholar (he is one who coined Indian words for telephone, photography, the parliament, among others), a brave revolutionary (tried to swim a sea and escape when captured by the enemy) and patriotic leader.
Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak (1856-1920)
An Indian social activist for greater transparency in Government. He was awarded Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in 2006, for activating India's 'Right to Information' movement at grassroots and social activities to empower the poorest citizens to fight corruption by holding the government answerable to the people.

The Garbage Trap-Sanitary workers of Indian cities.
Thanks to Atul Pethe (Director) and Pune Municipality Workers Union (Producer)
Set in Pune (India), this film depicts the lives of sanitary workers maintaining health and hygiene of our cities. It juxtaposes citizens, administrators, politicians, labor leaders and the "Sanitary soldiers"; and lets the viewers draw their own conclusions.
Chernobyl Disaster Incident (Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, Video 4,...)
The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear reactor accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union. It is considered to be the worst nuclear power plant disaster in history and the only level 7 instance on the International Nuclear Event Scale.
