·               Head of Counsellors, Hall of Residence 11, NTU (1 July, 2002 – 30 June, 2005)

 

Since I became the Head Counsellor, I have created a unique image of the Hall with the help of other counselors, the Hall 11 JCRC and staffs from the Hall Office. I am pleased to report that we have achieved some successes. Hall 11 is well known for its rich cultural activities and a pool of talented singers and dancers.

 

·               Director of Intelligent Systems Centre (IntelliSys), a university centre jointly set up by NTU and Singapore Technologies Engineering (7 August, 2003 – 30 June, 2006)

I was the pioneer Director responsible for setting up the Centre. Currently, the Centre has 30 staff and students. A number of visitors, notably Professor Jacek M. Zurada (President of IEEE Neural Networks Society and Nanyang Professor), Professor Jan Maciejowski (Department of Engineering of University of Cambridge) and Dr Zhuquan Zang (Senior Research Fellow of Curtin Australian Institute of Telecommunications) have praised the IntelliSys for the excellent management and high level of research activities and results. The Centre was officially opened on 18 May, 2005 to showcase our achievements. The Open House which was held in conjunction with the  Opening Ceremony attracted more than 500 visitors. The Official Opening of IntelliSys was reported in the Straits Times and Lianhe Zaoboa on 19 May, 2005. For more details of the IntelliSys, please refer to http://www.ntu.edu.sg/intellisys.

 

·              General Chair of ICARCV’2004 (20 February, 2003 – 31 December, 2004).

 

This is the first time ICARCV is organized outside Singapore. The Organising Committee, under my leadership, has worked tirelessly to scale ICARCV to a greater height. A record number of more than 900 papers and 28 invited sessions were received and more than 330 delegates attended the conference which was held from 6 to 9 Dec., 2004 in Kunming, China. Many delegates including the two Guest-of-Honours, Professor Su Guaning and NUTS President, Professor Xu Fuming praised the Organising Committee for the excellent organization and sent congratulatory notes to us.   As Chairman of the Technical Programme Committee, we have managed  to beef up the quality of the Technical Program. We have received feedback from delegates that the Technical Program was very well organised and the quality was very high.
