Asst Hon Treasurer - Mr Kwek Chu-Lih

Our financial year was from June 1999 to May 2000. We have thus closed the accounts as at 31st May 2000 and the accounts had since been auditted by our 2 internal auditors (viz Mr Leong Peng Kwai and Mr Ng Kong Yew). These 2 internal auditors were elected from the 3rd AGM.
For this financial year, our total income is $6,080 (from a total
of 51 life members, 30 ordinary members and 6 student members) while our expenses came up
to $2,407. Our main expenses are mainly for the quarterly gatherings, expenditure for the
last AGM and accountancy fees. We had decided to heavily subsidise the quarterly
gatherings (which includes a dinner as well as inviting a prominent speaker) so as to
encourage participation and interaction amongst members. Our taxes for the Year of
Assessments 2000 using the auditted accounts of FY98/99 came up to $25.
The following are the different membership categories and fee
structures for the Year 1999/2000:
Ordinary
Member:- $10 entrance
fee & $12 annual subscription fee.
Life
Member:-
$10 entrance fee & $100 life membership fee.
Associate
Member:- $10 entrance fee
& $12 annual subscription fee.
Student
Member:- $5
entrance fee & no annual subscription fee.
There was no change to the fee structure so that we can continue
to encourage more of our alumni to join us.

Out of a number of ordinary members whose membership had expired, 12 had converted to life membership while another 5 had renewed their membership. In the meantime, we would be writing to the others to remind them to renew their membership or convert to life membership. We would like to strongly encourage all ordinary members to consider upgrading to life membership, to avoid the hassle of paying subscription fees every year and the fees may increase over the years.
This year we had a record of 53 life members who signed up - increasing our life membership by more than 60%, from the previous 81 life members as reported at the last AGM. This is in spite of the fact that many of us in the Committee had several heavy work and family commitments. I believe that the Committee requires new blood with new contacts so that the core group of people can be enlarged. Currently the core group is still mainly made of some present and some ex- Committee members, mainly from the 85 and 86 batches, probably due to historical reasons. However, my vision is for the Committee to be made up of a representative (eg. the ex-President of the EEE Club) from each Class (or Batch) and each of the ex-Club Committee Members can form sub-committees. This would be ideal in terms of contacts for the various Classes and also to streamline the organisation of activities.
At the 1st meeting of the 3rd Executive Committee, it was decided that Prof Brian Lee and Prof Er Meng Hwa be invited to be the patrons of the Association. This is in view of the invaluable contributions that they had made to the birth and growth of this Association. We are pleased to report that both of them had accepted the invitation.
Currently our publicity is still mainly through the NTULink and the E-Cube World. We record a word of thanks to NTU and the School of EEE to allow us to publicise the Association and to include the application form for free in these magazines. We also have a Web Page at http://www.ntu.edu.sg/home/eeealumni which is currently linked to the NTU Web Page.
We had organised 2 Members Nite (combination of talk plus dinner) in the months of Nov 1999 and Feb 2000. We were most pleased to have 2 officers from NSTB (Anderson Lim and Jurn Mun) to talk about technopreneurship as well as Timothy Tan (a PhD research student) to provide interesting insights on Healthy Eating. In May 2000, we joined the School of EEE in the Class of 85 and Class of 90 in celebrating the 15th and 10th Anniversary Reunions.
Based on the initiative of the Sub-Dean, A/P Tay Beng Kang, our executive committee met with the EEE Club Executive Committee in Oct 1999 to discuss possible joint projects and activities. As a result, some of our alumni members formed a panel to talk about Life After Graduation to the undergraduates in Jan 2000, as part of the EEE Week activity.
In conclusion, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the Executive Committee who in spite of their heavy work and family commitments have taken time to contribute to the work of the Association as well as to attend meetings.
As the Association can still be considered to be in its infant stage, the support from each member is crucial. I hope that all of us would not hesitate to come forward to serve in the committee or volunteer to help the committee and participate in any activities organised by the Association.
