Project TACREA

Principal Investigators:

A/Prof CHAM Tat Jen (astjcham at ntu edu_sg)
A/Prof CHIA Liang Tien, Clement (asltchia at ntu edu_sg)

Keyphrases:

computer vision, machine learning, image/video matching and registration, pose estimation

This is a DSTA-funded project on localizing a user carrying/wearing a mobile camera in an urban area based on images captured from the camera. Such image-based localization technology is particularly useful in unfamiliar high-rise urban areas, where GPS triangulation may not be adequately achieved due to line-of-sight obstruction. The prior data available is a 3D geometric model layout of the urban area, which may optionally include facade appearance data. The proposed framework involves separate stages of recognizing buildings, determining image-to-model registration, and followed by pose computation. The system will be tested on both regular field-of-view cameras as well as omnidirectional cameras.

We currently have an opportunity for:

  1. Postdoctoral Research Fellow. We are looking for a candidate with a PhD degree from a good university, and proven research credentials (publications and/or building research systems) in a computer vision-related topic. Strong preference will be given to individuals who have track record of collaborating and leading research groups. The duration is 1 year, with expected renumeration of SGD$4,500-$5,000 (not including potential performance bonus and CPF for Singaporeans / permanent residents).

SmartSpace-PROCAMS Project

Principal Investigators:

A/Prof CHAM Tat Jen (astjcham at ntu/edu/sg)

Keyphrases:

projector-camera systems, middleware, smart space, sentient rooms, human-computer interaction, pervasive computing

The overall purpose of this project is to develop key technologies that will enable the creation of ubiquitous displays in intelligent environments, where all walls, tabletops, floors and other objects can be transformed into interactive displays - a present-day version of the `holo-deck'. The research focus of this project at this stage is to develop a middleware scripting environment that allows a SmartSpace developer to quickly prototype physically interactive demos.

We currently have an opportunity for:

  1. Research Engineer. We are looking for a candidate with a relevant Bachelors or Masters degree from a good university and a strong academic record. The candidate is expected to be very strong in programming, and have taken a subject course / module in computer vision or closely-related subject, with a good performance at undergraduate final-year project or equivalent. The candidate is also expected to be familiar with (or be able to very rapidly pick up) C++and C#, as well as distributed programming frameworks such as Microsoft .NET Remoting and/or CORBA. The duration is 1-2 years, with expected renumeration of SGD$2,700-$3,300 (not including potential performance bonus and CPF for Singaporeans / permanent residents).
