What is an
AU?
The academic unit (AU) is a measure of the students’ workload associated with both class attendance and preparation. Under the Academic Unit System, each course is assigned a certain number of academic units. The Associate Chair (Academic) shall discuss AUs during the Orientation Day programme.
Lecture
notes: Where do I get them?
The EEE Club will be distributing the lecture notes on the Orientation
Day. Details of the sale of notes will be announced during the Orientation
Day. There will be no collection of manuals during the Orientation Day.
Laboratory manuals will be distributed by the Undergraduate Programme Office
from 11 - 14 August 2009 (9.00 am – 12.00 nn).
Design and
Innovation Project, Internship, UROP and URECA: What are these?
The Design and Innovation Project is a 5-week programme conducted at the
end of the semester break (May to June 2010) of the second year. Internship,
on the other hand, is conducted during the third year. These programmes are
designed to enhance your understanding of the courses you have learnt.
To promote research culture among able students, the Undergraduate Research
Opportunities Programme (UROP) and Undergraduate Research Experience on
Campus (URECA) have been established. URECA is eligible only to 2nd and 3rd
year undergraduates who have excelled in their examinations, while UROP is
offered to all interested 2nd and 3rd year students.
I want to read more than just my lecture notes. What should I do?
You can refer to the booklist to find the references and recommended textbooks for all second year courses. Students are encouraged to read beyond the lecture notes (copies of transparencies). You may also wish to discuss certain topics with your tutors and professors.
What are the useful handbooks available and how can I find them?
There are a few handbooks published by the school and other
administrative and academic branches of NTU for students’ reference. For

Where can I
buy books?
The bookshops in NTU are located at the Popular Bookstore (S4-B5a-01) and
at Campus Bookstore (NIE, Block 4, B1-10). You can buy your books,
stationery, stamps, greeting cards, etc., from the bookshops. Technical
textbooks are also available at various technical bookstores in Singapore.

Submission Deadlines
There are deadlines for submission of laboratory reports. These deadlines are posted on the EEE timetable website

I want to join an EEE professional society. What do I do?
There are a few EEE professional societies worth joining. The prominent
ones include the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE, UK, and Institution
of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE, USA). EEE students are
automatically members of the NTU EEE Club. The activities of the EEE Club
will be presented during the Orientation Day.
I want to live in the Halls, what do I need to do to qualify?
The allocation of a room in Halls of Residence is based on a Hall Admission Scheme. However, the detailed system is not released yet. For more information, visit the web site

Help! Where
can I get help – Counselling Service?
Students who have problems are advised to see their Advisors in their School. The Student Affairs Office also provides Student Counselling Service. Students living in the Halls of Residence may also seek counselling from their Hall Counsellors. All counselling sessions will be conducted in the strictest confidence. A professor shall be assigned to be your advisor and you can meet him/her during the student-meet-advisor session on the designated dates.

Study, study, study, I need to take a break. Are there any interesting things to do?
You can participate in numerous sporting activities at the NTU Sports
Centre. The NTU Sports Centre is well equipped with a swimming pool,
badminton, squash, basketball, and volleyball courts and soccer fields,
among other things. There are also religious, cultural, academic and sports
societies in NTU for students’ participation. Many of these activities held
throughout the year are displayed by banners in the university canteens.
There are also many activities held in the respective Halls of Residences.

I am sick. Where can I get medical attention?
All full-time students who have paid an annual health service fee are
eligible for the NTU Medical Scheme. The following services are available
for students under this scheme:
• Outpatient treatment at the Medical Centre on Campus
• Consultation of Specialist Outpatient Clinics in government hospitals
• Hospitalisation, etc.

I have not done well in my examinations, what are my options now? How much overloading can I take to make up?
You may first seek counselling from your advisor who would advise you on
what options are available. If you wish to overload to make up, the School
will approve an overload of two courses of up to 8 AUs. You are generally
advised not to overload by more than one course. To obtain more information
on overloading and course registration, please visit the website

of Academic Advisors is also available from the Undergraduate Programme
Office (Block S2, Level B2a).
What is the NTU EEE Alumni Association?
The Alumni was set up in Dec 1996 by our first EEE graduates and its main
objectives are to organise educational, social, cultural, recreational,
sporting and civic activities among alumni EEE members. It is a great
networking channel for NTU EEE graduates.
This association also serves as a body for members in the promotion and
advancement of electrical and electronic engineering education and
knowledge. It also promotes closer interaction between the association,
industry and other alumni associations.
How do I join the NTU EEE Alumni Association?
You are encouraged to join the association
and all EEE students may join as student members for S$5.00 (entrance fees).
The subscription fee is waived for undergraduates. Please apply via the

The EEE Club! Who are they?
What do they do? (Contributed by the EEE Club)
Full-time NTU undergraduates who are admitted into School of EEE are automatically members of the NTU EEE Club. The Club is a constituent body of the NTU Students’ Union, which caters for students’ welfare. The Main Management Committee is elected in Semester One (First few weeks of school) to serve students’ interests and to organise activities to zest up campus life. Portfolios of services include the following: admin, academic & welfare, publications, publicity, media & information, sports, social, business and special projects. The Club also serves as a bridge between the School and the students. The EEE Club exists specifically for you! What fun events does the Club organize? (Contributed by the EEE Club)
The Club organises a variety of events to suit the different needs of our active students. For the sporty ones, we have Er Meng Hwa Basketball Challenge, Brian Lee Volleyball Challenge and Kam Chan Hin Muscle Team Challenge to enable them to pit their skills against fellow EEE students and staffs. We also organise leisure events like Cruise Dinners, Movie-screenings and Holiday Getaways at subsidised rates. In addition, we co-organise events like Bowling Rendezvous and Graduates’ Evening with the EEE Alumni to encourage interaction and networking between undergraduates and alumni members. A kick-off in early semester 2 will see the biggest event in EEE Club calendar, EEE Week being presented to all our students. Many freebies and goodies bags will be given. The finale of the fun-filled EEE Week will be EEE Night, a cultural performance featuring the EEE staff and students will be held to display their special talents. Furthermore, academic trips, partially subsidized by the school, to various countries are also organised for our students. However, events organised every year are subjected to changes depending on the Club’s discretion.

How do I join to be an active serving member of EEE Club? (Contributed by the EEE Club)
If you are a dynamic leader, and would like to join as an office-bearer of the EEE Club Management Committee, the Club Election will be held early in the first semester. You will require one person to nominate you and one more to second your nomination. Nomination date would be posted on the EEE Club notice board (outside LT23) and do approach any EEE Club Management Committee member if you would like to come forth to serve the student population. During the Election Day, you will need the support of the EEE population to be voted in. Besides serving in the Main Committee, an alternative is to serve as a Sub-Committee. Please do look out for recruitment sessions presented by the Club.
Where can I access lecture notes online in the School, print or photocopy them? (Contributed by EEE Club)
The computer room in the School of EEE is named EEE iHub. It is located at S2.2-B4-05. Its opening hours is from 8.30 am to 11.00 pm (Mon – Fri) during term time and from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm (Mon – Fri) during vacation period. Students may surf internet or print lecture notes in EEE iHub. There are two Black & White and one Colour network printers in EEE iHub. Alternatively, students may get photocopied lecture notes at the photocopy room located at S2.2-B4-01. Two self-service photocopy machines are available in the photocopy room. Students may request assistance for bulk photocopy. EEE Club is in charge of overseeing the quality of service in EEE iHub and the photocopy room. |
