The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering offers graduate research programmes leading to Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees.

Candidates reading for a higher degree by research pursue an independent but supervised research on an approved topic based on which a thesis must be submitted for examination. M.Eng and Ph.D candidates admitted in Sem I, AY05-06 and thereafter are required to attend classes and pass the examinations of 3 and 6 graduate-level courses respectively. Selection of courses is made after consultation with the research supervisor. M.Eng and Ph.D. candidates are also required to pass a Qualifying Examination no later than 12 and 24 months of their full-time candidature respectively. The candidates will be assessed by 3 panel members during the Qualifying Examination based on fundamental materials and thesis proposal.

Research candidates work closely and keep in regular contact with assigned supervisor on their research project. Supervisors will submit regular reports on the progress of each candidate under their supervision.

In addition to being examined on the thesis and passing the above requirements, a candidate for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy must pass an oral examination on the course matter of his thesis and other related courses.
