  • Prof Er Meng Hwa, Deputy President and Dean of School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering has been conferred Honorary Fellowship by the prestigious IEE in recognition of his outstanding contributions to engineering research, education, public and social services. He will receive his certificate at the IEE Innovation in Engineering Awards function to be held in London in September 2005 and his name will also be inscribed in the album containing photographs of Honorary Fellows and Faraday Medalists.

  • Prof Er Meng Hwa, Deputy President and Dean of School School of EEE, has been invited as a Member of Editorial Board of IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, which was ranked first out of 205 journals, including all IEEE transactions, magazines, and journals from other publishers, in terms of ISI citation impact in the electrical and electronic area.

  • Dr. Zhu Weiguang, Professor in School of EEE, has been invited as a Member of Editorial Board of J. Feeroelectrics. J. Ferroelectrics was started in 1970 and is now firmly established as the archival journal in the field of ferroelectrics and related phenomena.

  • Congratulations to Dr. Shum Ping, Associate Professor in School of EEE who has won the Young Scientist Award 2002 for his research on next generation optical communication systems. The Young Scientist Award is presented to RSEs who have shown great potential to be world class researchers in their fields of expertise.

  • Prof. Narasimhan Sundararajan from EEE has been invited to visit the School of Computer Science and Automation, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India under an endowed visiting professorship, "Prof. I.G.Sarma Memorial ARDB Chair." Late, Professor I. G. Sarma had broad research interests in systems, control, and automation and served the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore with distinction for about 25 years. The above chair was instituted in his memory and sponsored by the Aeronautics Research & Development Board (ARDB), Government of India, New Delhi, India, in the broad areas of Aerospace Modeling, Control, and Simulation. Prof Sundararajan will be visiting IISC, Bangalore from Novemeber 15, 2002 to February 10, 2003.

  • Dr. Ma Jian-Guo is invited by Professor R. Vahldieck (Fellow of IEEE) to give a seminar to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich (ETHZ), Switzerland from 21 Oct. to 30 Oct. His academic trip is financially supported by ETHZ.

  • Associate Professor Luo Fang Lin of the school of EEE, has newly been appointed an Associate Editor of IEEE-Transactions on Power Electronics with effective from (wef) the first October 2002. A/Prof. Luo is an IEEE senior member and has 180 technical papers published. He is the Associate Editor in the research area "Low Power Converters" and works with Dr. J.D. van Wyk, Editor-in-Chief IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics. There is a group of reviewers to work with A/Prof. Luo to review and assess the submitted papers. Usually, the reviewing period for each paper is 3 - 6 months. According to the reviewer's reports, he decides if the paper can be published in the IEEE-Transactions on Power Electronics. A/Prof. Luo would like to have strong support from NTU colleagues.
