Freshmen Orientation Camp 2011
IEM Year 4 Student, Huang Jiesi

A day of fun, games and friendship kickstarted university life for the freshmen.

This year's orientation theme was ELEMENTEM, 'the simplest component of a complex substance'. It is a metaphor for how every person comes together to make up the IEM family. The freshmen were split into 6 groups, Abyss, Aqua, Cosmos, Plasma, Pyro and Tempest, corresponding to the elements of space, water, earth, energy, fire and wind respectively.

An exciting race was held around the central and south areas of Singapore. Groups were tasked with missions such as taking themed photos with tourists, challenged to 20-second speed drawings, and they even re-enacted scenes in paintings! Teams were also pitted against each other during competitive games in Sentosa.

Although it rained the better half of the day, our spirits were not dampened. The orientation ended on a high note with each group promoting their elements in a skit.

Freshmen and seniors alike forged strong bonds that will bring them through their time in NTU IEM.
