About ISP | An invitation for ISP Proposal | ISP Proposal Form
Back to FYP Homepage

As part of NTU’s curriculum, all final year students of the School of EEE are required to undertake a project, supervised by one or two academic staff members. The project involves an in-depth study, investigation, construction of hardware and/or software and testing in any of the areas of specialized courses offered in a final year option group, spread over the whole academic year (mid August to middle of March in the following year). Only single-student projects will be considered. Students are required to submit a formal report, demonstrate the project and also make an oral presentation on completion of the project.

Final year projects are organized into two main categories, namely Types A and B:

  • Type A :Internally generated project - Individual Staff Projects/Staff 's Applied Research/A*STAR Projects
  • Type B : Externally generated Projects - Normal Industry Sponsored Projects (ISP)/ Projects proposed for Special Manpower Program SMP for IC design/Projects proposed by Research Institutes (RI)

ISPs can be initiated by a EEE staff through his/her contacts with the local industries or directly by industrial sponsors who do not have any particular EEE supervisors in mind. Some projects undertaken during industrial attachment (IA) may be extended into ISPs with the submission of the ISP forms. New ISPs are also welcomed.

Every ISP project will be jointly supervised by both industrial supervisors and EEE academic staff members, and graded by EEE academic staff members only. Unlike IA projects, ISPs are undertaken by students not on a full-time basis, since final year students are also required to study several subjects in each semester. Therefore, students normally conduct ISPs in the NTU campus during the semesters. However, occasional visits to companies during the semesters and short periods in companies by students may be arranged, with mutual agreement by industrial sponsors, supervisors and students involved in the ISPs.
