Slam dunk - Master's and Bachelor's degrees in four years

WHEN he realised that NTU offers an integrated engineering programme, getting into it was an easy slam dunk for Eric Chng. The 1.94m-tall basketball player jumped at it because he wanted to see if he could complete both a master's and an undergraduate programme in four years.

And why not? At just 21, the ambitious former straight-A student of Hwa Chong Institution has it all mapped out.

Now a freshman at NTU's College of Engineering, he will specialise in Information Communications Technology in his final year before jetting off to the United States to earn his master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Upon his return, the scholarship-holder with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore will begin his career with Singapore Computer Systems.

It all fits nicely with Eric's passion for greater efficiency in Singapore's integrated IT infrastructure - and maybe starting his own company some day.

"What won me over were NTU's friendly and enthusiastic professors and students, and NTU's reputation as one of the top 25 technology universities in the world."
