Biography
-
George Chen received his BS and MS in Physics from University of California, Los Angeles in 1982 and 1984 respectively, and received MS in Electrical Engineering (OPTICS) from University of Southern California in 1987. He was with Respironics (H.K.) Ltd. from 1988 to 1990 where he started out as a testing engineer and then promoted to be the department head in Quality Control. At the same time, he was a visiting lecturer in Hong Kong Polytechnic teaching Semiconductor Physics. From 1991-1996 he was an optical designer in Avimo Electro-Optics, Singapore where he designed various kinds of optical systems for military, commercial and medical applications, and a development engineer with Avimo Group from 1996-1999. He received his PhD degree from Nanyang Technological University in 2000, and was a research associate there from 1999-2000 researching in Diffused IR Wireless Communication. In 2001, he joined the faculty of School of EEE, NTU and is now an associate professor there teaching courses related to Photonics. He has published more than 50 international papers and serves as a reviewer for journals including Optical Engineering, Optics Communication, Photonics Technology Letters, and Optics Express.
