PHOTONICS RESEARCH CENTRE (PhRC) OVERVIEW
The Photonics Research Centre (PhRC) in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is dedicated to research and teaching in the fast-paced field of Photonics science and technology. The culture of openness and the broad range of expertise and equipment in the Centre provide a stimulating and dynamic environment for researchers and students alike.
The Centre was founded in 1994 as a photonics research technology, the first of its kind in Singapore. Today it encompasses 21 academic staff, 35 research staff, 60 research students and 5 research and teaching laboratories and conducts research in many cutting-edge areas of Photonics.
In the area of teaching, we provide training and education to the undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as industry engineers. In the area of research, there are six main research programmes namely Laser, Fiber and Ultrafast Photonics (Joint effort with NTRC) , Biophotonics, Green Photonics, Microfluidic Photonics and Microsystems, Nanophotonics and Photonics Materials & Devices.
The Centre has signed MOUs with international collaborators, including the TNO Institute of Applied Physics in Delft, Ecole Natinale Superieure, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Monash University, Thales Technology Centre Singapore Pte Ltd, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Nankai University-Institute of Materials Research and Engineering.
