Under construction

The Communication Research Laboratory was established to support research and development in areas related to communication engineering.

Major Facilities

An extensive range of high-end equipment is available for supporting communication systems development and characterisation, ranging from design and prototyping of circuits to measurement of transceiver sensitivity, spectral emissions, bit error rate and frame error rate. A dedicated LEO satellite tracking groundstation is available for satellite communication research in the VHF and UHF bands with extensions to L- and S-bands. Ku-band satellite beacon receivers and a Ka-band microwave link are available for system studies into effects of rain and performance enhancements using site diversity.

Computing facilities in the laboratory are provided through a cluster of HP-UX workstations and X-terminals networked together through a 100 VG LAN.

Software available in the cluster includes MDS, EESOF Series IV, SPW, BONES, COSSAP, SYNOPSIS, DSP stations and MATLAB.
