Biography

Dr. Bose joined the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore in June 2003 after more than twenty years with the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India as Assistant Professor (1982-1991) and Professor (1991-2003). Early in his career, he was associated with the Corporate Research and Development Center of the General Electric Co. at Schenectady, New York where he worked on power line communications, optical fiber communications and mobile satellite communications. During his stay in I.I.T., Kanpur, Dr. Bose was an active member of the ERNET Project team which designed, set up and ran the ERNET computer network interconnecting the major research and academic institutions in India. He was also involved in consultancy work with the Indian Space Research Organization in the areas of mobile satellite networks and satellite based Internet access. He has been actively involved in the organization of several major conferences and has also been providing volunteer support to IEEE activities. He has published numerous books, journal and conference papers in the areas of computer networks and queuing systems. He also maintains a very popular web site on queueing systems at http://www.ntu.edu.sg/home/eskbose/qbook/qbook.html. Dr. Bose is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Research Interest

Dr. Bose’s primary research interests are in the areas of performance modeling of computer systems and networks using both a queuing theory based analytical approach as well as simulations. He has been active in the study of routing and traffic grooming in optical networks and in the modeling and analysis of optical networks and switches for unicast and multicast traffic and traffic with differentiated service requirements. His current interests also span wireless networks and UWB systems where he has been involved in studying power-aware routing for efficient power-usage and the study of multi-hop, multi-path systems providing QoS support for specific applications in MANETs and ad-hoc networks.

Selected Research Projects

  • Advanced Routing Techniques for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
  • Cross-Layer Optimization for Multimedia Multi-hop Wireless Networks
  • Advanced Traffic Grooming Techniques for Unicast and Multicast Applications in IP over WDM Networks
