The Division of Information Engineering supports teaching and research activities mainly in the areas of Computer Engineering and Signal Processing, including computing, computer architectures, operating systems, compiler, microprocessors, database systems, computer security, computer interfacing techniques, signals and systems, digital signal processing, audio/speech/image/video processing, multimedia systems, artificial intelligence, and pattern recognition. In the undergraduate curriculum, the Division offers two final year specializations in Computer Engineering and Digital Signal Processing. Both specializations are designed to train students for the rapidly changing areas in Information Technology and Info-Communications. The Division also offers a Master of Science (MSc) programme in Signal Processing to cater for the needs of the local industry. Through this programme, 12 graduate-level courses in the broad area of signal processing are conducted each academic year for both MSc and research (PhD and MEng) students.

The Division is also active in research work, consultancy services, and professional society activities in the areas of Signal Processing for Communications, Multimedia Signal Processing, Signal Classification and Pattern Recognition, Statistical and Adaptive Signal Processing, Watermarking and Authentication, Biometrics and Information Security. Staff members are closely affiliated and actively involved in research and development (R&D) projects with the Centre for Information Security, Centre for Signal Processing, and several other centres in the University. R&D projects are typically funded by local companies, A*Star, IDA, MINDEF, DSO, MOE and Research Institutes or by the university‘s research funds.

The Division has 37 full-time academic staff, 1 teaching fellow, 1 Associate Professorial Fellow, 3 adjunct academic staff, 1 admin staff, 18 technicians, 9 research staff and about 100 research students pursuing MEng/PhD degrees. The MSc programme in Signal Processing has an enrolment of over 100 students. The Division also operates 7 research/teaching laboratories to provide various up-to-date computing, teaching, and R&D resources and equipment to the students, research and academic staff members.
