The main research focus of this post-graduate research laboratory is in the field of information engineering. Academic staff can, independently and in collaboration with local industries, multi-national corporations and thegovernment, use their expertise to develop new techniques, explore new ideas and research new areas in the fields of:

- Computer Architectures and Parallel Processing
- Neural Networks and Applications
- Multimedia Signal Processing
- Array Signal Processing
- Signal Processing for Communications
- Image Processing and Pattern Recognition
Equipment in this laboratory includes a local area network (LAN) connecting more than 100 personal computers and advanced workstations, servers, parallel machines and other hardware resources. This LAN is connected to the NTUnet backbone on UNIX and Window NT platforms.
