Biography

Dr. Xue Ping received his MSE, MA and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton University, USA in 1981, 1982 and 1985 respectively. He was a Member of Technical Staff of the David Sarnoff Research Center, USA from 1984 to 1986, and on the faculty of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China from 1986 to 1990. After a brief work in USA in 1991, he moved to Singapore, working as the principal engineer at the design center of the Chartered Semiconductor in 1991, and later moved the Institute of Microelectronics in 1994, where he was the R&D manager of the Microelectronics System Application department. He joined Nanyang Technological University in 2001 and currently holds a position of Associate Professor. He is also the Program Director of Multimedia Signal Processing in the Center of Signal Processing of the university. Dr. Xue is a senior member of IEEE, serving as the Chairman of the IEEE Signal Processing Chapter, Singapore since 2005, and a Member of Multimedia Technical Committee of the IEEE Circuit and System Society from 2004. He has been the Technical Committee member of the Singapore national body of MPEG since 1995, and a Faculty Associate of Institute for Infocomm Research since 2006.

    Video content analysis: segmentation, recognition, indexing
    Perceptual quality metrics and perceptual-based video coding
    Super resolution construction for video with surveillance applications
