Biography

Anamitra Makur received the B.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, and the M.S. and Ph.D. (in 1990) degrees from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA. He worked in the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, until 2002 in various capacities, the most recent being a Professor. He also held visiting positions at the University of California at Santa Barbara (USA), University of Kaiserslautern (Germany), and Griffith University at Brisbane (Australia). He joined the faculty of Nanyang Technological University in 2002. Prof. Makur was awarded the 1998 Young Engineer award from the Indian National Academy of Engineering, and has served as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing during 2001-2006.

 

Research Interest

    Multirate signal processing: filterbank characterization and design in one and two dimensions
    Signal compression: subband and transform coding, multiple description coding,
    distributed source coding, image and video compression, vector quantization
    Image and video processing: watermarking, segmentation, halftoning, restoration, etc.
