Why study Electronic Engineering?

The demand for delivering faster, smaller, portable and highly reliable integrated circuit chips is what drives the semiconductor market. It has evolved into one of the critical foundations, which renders immense impact to the global economy. The high momentum developed in the direction of low-voltage low-power has created a trend sustained and being fuelled by the strong demand from the field of portable electronics in general, and the mobile/wireless communications market in particular. This has lead many business leaders and market visionaries to predict that the best is yet to come, and the established trend will stay with us for a long time.

In the new millennium, the technological advancement of electronics remains unabated and is likely to remain so. Singapore has benefited greatly from its major investments and infrastructure in the electronics industry. In fact, the electronics industry remains one of its principle engines of growth. Moreover, f uelled by the current high-tech global economy and the rapid expansion of electronics, in particular the continuing miniaturization of integrated circuits (ICs), the demand for electronics engineers becomes higher. Also, with the recent strong upturn in the semiconductor industry, the employment opportunities for electronics engineers will become very buoyant.
