Stay Calm and Stand Up: Becoming more assertive in the workplace (NSA)(SFC) 

Introduction

Assertive does not equate to Aggressive or Arrogant. These are all 3 different states. Assertiveness lies between passivity and aggression. Being assertive is standing up for your own personal rights and expressing your beliefs without violating others' rights. Assertive people influence others in positive ways, are non-judgmental and adopt a proactive rather than a reactive approach. In this Assertiveness Training Course, you will learn the various building blocks from enhancing your self esteem, listening skills to learning to say "No". From either a passive or aggressive person, you can develop to a more assertive person. This will increase your confidence and effectiveness in handling conflicts and constructive dialogue with others.

Trainer(s)

Mr Lum, Michael

Michael Lum holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from National University of Singapore and a Master of Commerce from the University of New South Wales, Sydney. To hone in his skills as a trainer, he pursued a Graduate Diploma (Training and Development) from Civil Service College, Singapore and a Certificate in Counselling.

For the last 18 years, Michael has been training management programs both in Singapore and in the region. He is also an associate trainer with Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and MIS. Additionally, he coaches business executives on a one-to-one basis and mentors start-ups and SMEs.

Michael is an associate faculty instructor with SIM University. He is also a certified trainer with American Board of NLP (Neuro-linguistics Programming), American Management Association and Louis Allen Leadership Program. An Associate Certified Coach with International Coaching Federation, he is also an IACT stressologist, NGH hypnotherapist, Laughter Yoga instructor, Advanced Toastmaster Gold and a Project and Risk Management Professional.

Prior to setting up his own business, Michael was the general manager of British and local MNCs. He was also marketing manager of an American MNC and spent 3 years working as a chief accountant in Sydney. A wordsmith in his spare time, Michael is the bestselling author of "I Once Wore Diapers”, “No Failure; Only Success Delayed”, “Who Broke My Rice Bowl?” and “From Beggars to Millionaires”. The first book is translated into 4 languages. He is a regular contributor in Management to Recruit, Straits Times.

Who Should Attend

This 2-day self-reflective Assertiveness Training Course is designed for either passive or aggressive executives who want to be more assertive so that they can discharge their work functions more assertively.

Fee with NEW National Silver Academy (NSA) subsidy: S$336.30 (inclusive of GST) *conditions apply

To be eligible for NSA subsidy, participants:
- must be Singaporeans age 50 and above
* Participants who do not fulfill the above criteria are not eligible for NSA funding, and are required to pay the course fee in full.

Replacement Policy

Given a 3 days notice before course commencement, companies may replace participants who have signed up for the course. Terms and conditions apply.

 

There is no replacement for participant utilising SkillsFuture Credit. Participant to cancel their SkillsFuture Credit claim with WDA.
