Designing & Delivering Effective Technical Presentations (e2i)(PDU)(SFC) 

Introduction

This course is specifically designed for people who have to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Participants will learn how to make information come alive, and to deliver dynamic, persuasive presentations with ease. 

Objectives

At the end of the Effective Technical Presentation Skills course, participants should be able to quickly organize and present technical facts, ideas and recommendations to other technical professionals, non-technical managers and decision-makers in a clear, convincing, and understandable way.

• How technical presentations are different from other kinds of presentations.
• The three essential components of a presentation.
• Audience analysis and why this is a necessary step in a presentation.
• Organize information in a clear and concise manner.
• Create attention grabbing introductions and build instant rapport.
• Make your presentation flow with smooth and logical transitions.
• End on a memorable note with captivating conclusions.
• Avoid 'tech terror' by translating technical jargon into non-technical language.
• Avoid 'information overload' by limiting dry and boring statistics.
• How to explain technical data to non-technical audiences.
• Learn how to use stories and analogies to make technical information familiar and relevant.
• Techniques to sell ideas and persuade listeners to take action
• Techniques for varying vocal tones and body language.
• How to design and use graphics effectively to display technical information.
• Methods for overcoming fear and controlling nervousness.
• Respond to questions confidently, smoothly and appropriately.  

Trainer(s)

Dr Heah, Carmel

Dr Carmel Heah holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh in Britain. She teaches communication skills at the Language and Communication Centre, Nanyang Technological University. Dr Heah has more than 20 years’ experience teaching business and professional communication in universities in Canada, Singapore and Malaysia. Organisations that she has conducted business communication training for in Singapore include PSA Corporation, the National Parks Board, the Singapore Aviation Academy, the People’s Association, and the Institution of Structural Engineers (Singapore). Dr Heah has co-authored several books on the English language, business and technical communication skills, among which are Essential Communication Strategies for Engineers (Prentice-Hall Sprint Print) and Common Errors in English Third Edition (Penerbit Fajar Bakti Sdn Bhd/ Oxford University Press).

To be eligible for e2i subsidy, participants:
- must be Singaporeans or Permanent Residents of Singapore
- achieve minimum 75% attendance per run
* Participants who do not fulfill the above criteria are not eligible for e2i funding, and are required to pay the course fee in full.

Replacement Policy

Given a 3 days notice before course commencement, companies may replace participants who have signed up for the course. Terms and conditions apply.

 

There is no replacement for participant utilising SkillsFuture Credit. Participant to cancel their SkillsFuture Credit claim with WDA.
