 Welcome to the School of Computer Engineering
(SCE)!
Now a member of the College of Engineering,
SCE originated from the School of Applied Science
that was established in 1988. Recognising the
rapid growth in information systems and dedicated
computing systems, SCE was formed in 2000 to
offer undergraduate and graduate programmes
in the fields of computer engineering and computer
science. For over two decades, SCE has successfully
produced exceptional engineers, arming each
with the relevant competencies and life-long-learning
skills to redefine the way we live.
Since its inception, SCE has grown significantly.
As of early 2010, the School is made up of
114 faculty staff, 162 research staff, 71 administrative
and non-faculty staff, and over 2,000 undergraduate
and graduate students. The School is currently
organised into four divisions: Computer Communications,
Computer Science, Computing Systems, and Information
Systems.
Powered by state-of-the-art infrastructure
and knowledge base, the School fosters a vibrant
culture for undertaking cutting-edge research
to innovate viable technologies and solutions
for a wide variety of domains. SCE’s
alliances with organisations and eminent institutions,
both local and international, allow us to provide
a richer experience to our staff and students,
thereby further strengthening our teaching
and research relevance.
Our vision is to dominate as a world-class
institution for providing “education
for 21st century computer engineers who will
break trails and set new tracks”. Looking
ahead, SCE will continue to excel in the teaching
of its core areas of computer engineering and
computer science, and in the undertaking of
basic and applied research in areas of strategic
importance. We are confident that our students
and faculty will be the main drivers of change
and problem solvers in this modern, always-on,
always-connected world.
