The School of Computer Engineering offers research programmes, on part-time and full-time basis, in the discipline of Computer Engineering that lead to the following degrees:

  • Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) 
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

In addition to pursuing independent research, the candidates are required to satisfy the following requirements:

 

Qualifying Examination

M.Eng

  1. to complete 3 coursework courses
  2. to submit in-depth literature review of approved research topic

PhD

  1. to complete 6 coursework courses
  2. to submit in-depth literature review of approved research topic

Oral Examination

The PhD candidate is required to pass an oral examination on the subject matter of his/her thesis.

Exemption from the coursework courses may be granted by the Chair of the School through the Associate Chair (Research) if the candidate is deemed to have already done sufficient coursework in the relevant area in a Master's degree programme at a recognised University.  In the case of a Master's degree candidate, the minimum requirement after allowing for exemptions is one enrichment course.  In the case of a Ph.D. degree candidate, the minimum requirements after allowing for exemptions are either one enrichment course plus one coursework course, or two coursework courses.

All full-time higher degree research candidates, irrespective of their country of origin, are awarded a scholarship.
