LKY-STEP AWARD

THE LEE KUAN YEW SCHOLARSHIP TO ENCOURAGE UPGRADING (LKY-STEP)

The LKY-STEP AWARD was established from donations received from Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew through the sale proceeds of autographed editions of Volume 2 of his Memoirs.

The objective of the LKY-STEP AWARD is to encourage upgrading and lifelong learning. A maximum of five LKY-STEP AWARDS will be offered each year to outstanding polytechnic graduates pursuing full-time undergraduate degree courses at NUS, NTU and SMU.

VALUE OF LKY-STEP AWARD

The LKY-STEP AWARD consists of a one-off cash award of $5,000.

Holders of the LKY-STEP AWARD are allowed to hold concurrent scholarships offered by NUS, NTU and SMU (such as the University Engineering Scholarships) or other organisations. LKY-STEP AWARD holders who are unsuccessful in securing a concurrent scholarship will have their tuition fees waived by the universities. There will be no bond attached to the LKY-STEP AWARD.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The LKY-STEP AWARD is open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents who are Polytechnic Diploma holders who will be matriculated into full-time undergraduate degree courses in NUS, NTU or SMU in Academic Year 2003-2004.

Applicants should have achieved outstanding results in their polytechnic courses (preferably Diploma with Merit), SAT I test (not applicable to students who were offered places in NUS/NTU/SMU before 2003, while still in NS) and have good co-curricular activity (CCA) records. Selection for the award is based on merit.

Please note that late applications would not be accepted.

Candidates will be informed in early July 2003 whether they are shortlisted for the interview. The interviews will be held during the 3rd week of July 2003.
