NTU@Chingay Parade Singapore 2009

pix Draconika, Nanyang Technological University (NTU)’s debut participation in Chingay Parade, is the tallest float at Chingay Parade Singapore 2009.

This stunning float, featuring three dragons riding on a crest of waves, is a powerful interpretation of fantasy, form and creativity. The largest dragon can reach a height of up to nine meters.

Draconika has been engineered by over 120 brave hearts with diverse talents - engineers, computer scientists and artists; NTU management; and a cast of 100 leading dancers from the NTU Cultural Activities Club. The trio of dragons represent energy, boldness and grace – important attributes of a university focused on excellence, and strongly demonstrate the vibrancy of NTU and her community gearing up for the future.

Without any trusses or support structures, the three fantastical dragons manoeuvre gracefully and even breathe fire. These fire-breathing dragons signify NTU is blazing the trail in science and engineering, business, art and humanities. Accompanied by a variety of water and light effects, Draconika shows the University is traversing the sea of knowledge, conquering new frontiers and scaling new heights in research and technology.

About 100 students from NTU will also perform an energetic synchronised dance with cymbals, fans and pearl poles, in perfect harmony with the dragons. Dressed in handmade sequinned costumes and elaborate headdresses, the dancers will provide a grand spectacle performance to bring life to Draconika.

Draconika is truly a fabulous expression of the team spirit of the NTU community – ever youthful, strong, lively, hopeful and confident.
