Research@NTU

As a leading university, research is integral to NTU. It has a vibrant research culture and has created a name internationally for its work in fields such as advanced materials, biomedical engineering, clean energy and environment, computational biology, intelligent systems, nanotechnology and wireless and broadband communication.

The strong research culture has resulted in many world-first inventions. In order to continue to contribute and excel at the highest level, NTU through its Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) has formed an advisory panel of several Nobel laureates.    The Research TechnoPlaza forms the university's research hub with four interdisciplinary research corridors and 10 research centres.

Research is carried out within the colleges as well as through various partnership programmes. It is also carried out at all levels and has a specific programme aimed at outstanding undergraduates. Browse through the following list to explore the diverse opportunities available for research.

NTU's Culture of Research Excellence

With a growing research profile, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is creating a name internationally for its work in fields such as advanced materials, biomedical engineering, clean energy and environment, computational biology, intelligent systems, nanotechnology and wireless and broadband communication.

Life Changing Innovations

Staffed by researchers of international repute, the University's research centres have advanced science and technology with life-changing innovations. These world-first inventions include a new carbon film disposition technology, artificial heart valves, medical robots, laser fusion of fibre-optic cables, precision engineering technologies, home-grown satellite technologies, automated video surveillance devices, mass commercial farming of temperate crops using aeroponics, and the establishment of a world class MPEG standard.

Multidisciplinary Environment

In this vibrant multidisciplinary research environment, both students and staff enjoy a host of opportunities for research collaboration with world-leading universities and renowned institutes. And with all courses grounded in a strong research culture where innovation and critical enquiry are key features, NTU students are immersed in the best of learning environments.

To further cultivate a research culture, the Undergraduate Research Experience on Campus (URECA) allows undergraduates to have the flexibility to work on research projects of their choice from any discipline in NTU. More than 800 research projects are available to students in the areas of engineering, biological sciences, business management and accountancy, communication studies and humanities so they can gain a good appreciation of research.

Thriving Research Environment

The University has invested heavily in research, creating some of the best laboratories and research centres in the world. The S$25 million nine-storey Research TechnoPlaza, which forms the University's research hub with four interdisciplinary research corridors and 10 research centres housed in it is a prime example. Activities of the research centres are linked to their international counterparts, turning the campus into a mini Silicon Valley yielding more landmark innovations, nurturing a new generation of leaders along the way.
