Falling sick in Singapore can be a financial drain if the illness requires specialist consultation, hospitalisation or surgery as international students are not eligible for hospitalisation and surgery subsidies. International students without a local insurance policy are required to pay a large cash deposit if they are hospitalised.
To avoid the inconvenience and costs of the above, the ISC has arranged a GHSI scheme for all international students. It is compulsory for all full-time international students to subscribe to the GHSI scheme.
Eligibility
All full-time international students (non-Singapore citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents) are required to take up the Scheme. Students whose candidatures are subsequently converted to part-time status will not be covered under the Scheme. Singapore citizens who wish to subscribe to the Scheme may do so by signing up directly with the insurance company.
