A: The objective of the Scheme is to promote mobile computing and computer ownership among students and staff of the University. The scheme includes NTU PC Loan scheme and offer of PC for purchase at preferential price. Q: What is the PC/Notebook Model selection process A: 1) Before the start of each academic year, CITS will prepare the specifications of the PCs configuration, software and pre and post sales services needed in the form of a tender. The tender is publish on government purchasing public website for interested suppliers to submit to submit their proposal. The specifications are based on feedback from users and schools incorporating our assessment of market trend. At the close of the tender, CITS will carry out the evaluation of the proposals received (based on price and meeting tender requirements) and recommend to NTU tender board for award approval. The awarded contract last for about an academic year i.e. end around June/July of the following year. Due to expected large sales volume, the successful bids are value for money. During the contract period, suppliers are allow to improve their offer but not increase the submitted price. Q: What is CITS’s Role? A: CITS manages the tendering process and subsequently the fulfillment by the successful suppliers. The sale package is inclusive of PC, bundled software and after sales warranty for three years. Prior to the opening of the tender, CITS will also discuss with software vendors such as Microsoft and Adobe to offer software such as Microsoft 2007 and Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium (retailing at more than $800) as part of the PCs package. After the tender award, CITS will publish detailed of awarded models and prices on CITS website. Interested students and staff are advise to visit the official website for details. Periodically CITS will work with the PC suppliers to introduce promotion such that students will get more out of the deal. CITS will also work with suppliers to ensure that the price remains competitive to market price. Toward this objective, we welcome feedback from students/ staff who found better deal offered for the same package from other sources. Q: What is Campus Computer Store’s Role? A: The PC tender is awarded to successful suppliers. For the convenience of the students (and staff), these suppliers have appointed the campus computer store (8 Flag) as their sales and fulfillment agent. In other words, the campus computer store is selling the PC listed on CITS websites on behalf of the successful suppliers. Note that given the campus computer store is also a PC and accessories retail outlet, it also sells IT products which are not sourced by CITS. Q: What is the difference between the NTU’s tender PC/notebook and street model A: a) 3 years warranty vs 1 year warranty All Notebooks offer in NTU tender comes with minimum 3 years on-campus warranty covering parts (including battery) and labor and 1 year international warranty. Suppliers will provide collection point on campus and/or their service collection points on Singapore island. During the 3 year warranty, the suppliers are also required to replace faulty battery (ie. battery that is unable to retain less than half an hour of charge) at no additional cost. We understand notebooks purchased from other sources normally come with 1 year warranty and require additional payment for such high service level. While all desktop PC offer in NTU tender comes with 3 years local on-site warranty covering parts and labor. For local on-site warranty, suppliers will service the PC at user premise on Singapore island. b) Bundled software To ensure a complete package to students, Notebooks on sale are bundled with 1) For Windows based Notebooks: Microsoft Vista Business Microsoft Office 2007 (includes Words, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook) Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium (include Acrobat 9 Professional, Photoshop CS4 Extended, Flash CS4 Professional, Dreamweaver CS4, Illustrator CS4, Fireworks CS4, Contribute CS4, Adobe Soundbooth CS4). 2) For Apple Macbooks: MAC OS X 10.5 Leopard Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 (includes Words, Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage) Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium (include Acrobat 9 Professional, Photoshop CS4 Extended, Flash CS4 Professional, Dreamweaver CS4, Illustrator CS4, Fireworks CS4, Contribute CS4, Adobe Soundbooth CS4). Apple MacBook Pro/MacBook Air/iMac Warranty A. Apple MacBook Pro/MacBook Air purchased from NTU can be serviced at any of the authorised Apple service centre during the 3 years warranty period. It is covered under Apple-Care Protection Plan. However, for repair of battery (ie. battery that is unable to retain less than half an hour of charge) & power adapter, customers are to visit campus computer shop or service centre managed by Sapura Apple iMac is covered with 3 years onsite warranty.
