Students can apply for either the MS or PhD programme. MS students are admitted only in late June while PhD students are admitted on a rolling basis.
For MS application, applicants must generally have
- a Bachelor’s degree with High Honours in engineering or science or equivalent
- an interview by a representative from Stanford or NTU
- taken the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) with a high score. (Applicants from Indian Universities may use their GATE scores)
- taken the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a high score, for international students
TOEFL and GRE scores are required for application. However, if not available, applicants for the MS June 2007 Intake may indicate the test date in their Pre-Application interview request or Application form.
Please attach a photocopy of your TOEFL and GRE/GATE score sheet to your application. If you are admitted, you will be required to produce the original score sheet for vertification on registration day.
Applicants from China, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong must provide the paper-GRE as the computer score is not accepted. For such applicants, the paper GRE score is a requirement for enrolment in the programme.
In addition, PhD candidates must have completed, or be in the process of completing, a Master's degree in engineering or science. PhD candidates should also refer to the PhD topic listing to identify the areas that they wish to do their research in as PhD candidates will only be admitted in those areas. Interested applicants should contact the faculty member before submitting their applications to the SSP Office. There is no deadline for PhD application. After the faculty member has indicated interest in considering the candidate, he/she should then mail in the full application forms (download from the SSP website) and ALL required supporting documents to the SSP Office for processing and for the faculty member to review. Applicants shall be informed only when there is further development on the application.
Applicants are evaluated on the strength of their academic records, letters of recommendation and professional promise. The admission process is expected to be highly competitive.
US Visa Requirements
Admission to the programme is contingent upon the students being able to secure US student visas before their enrollment. While the SSP office will assist each student in his/her visa application, there is no guarantee that the visa application will be successful, failing which, the student will have to defer his/her admission.
