Construction
Management Research Group
Overview
The
Construction Management Group, within the Centre
for Advanced Construction Studies (CACS)
and the Division
of Structures & Construction (ST & CO),
conducts interdisciplinary research that will lead to
the development of new concepts and methodologies in
the construction industry. The Centre's emphasis is
on developing innovative solutions to the state-of-the-art
technologies throughout the project life cycle from
design to construction, and from operations to maintenance
and decommissioning. Research is focused in the following
three major domains: construction management, construction
engineering, and management of technology.
In construction management, research
is carried out in the following areas: project finance,
build-operate-transfer (BOT), project planning and control,
estimating, scheduling, strategic planning, contracting,
infrastructure technologies, renovation, quality, productivity,
and re-engineering.
In construction engineering, research
covers areas such as buildability, project life cycle,
design-build, CAD-scheduling integration, and innovative
construction methods.
In management of technology, research
areas include, Internet collaboration, intelligent buildings,
bar-coding, knowledge robots in procurement, simulation
techniques, and expert systems via the Internet.
The construction group within CACS and
the Division of ST & CO, is reaching out to external
organisations to help develop research that fulfils
the current and future needs of the construction industry
in Singapore and abroad. Collaboration with other universities
and research institutes will help take advantage of
advances in other areas and particularly information
technology via technology transfer.
