Frequently Asked Questions on ADM Internship

[Please read the General Information on ADM Internship, the Instruction for Selection of ADM organisations and Procedures & Assessment System.]

This site contains general questions raised by students on ADM Internship

Question:

Can I select organisations not in my field of specialistion for Phase 1 Selection?

Answer:

School of Art, Design & Media encourages cross-division study. Students are no longer restricted to select programmes related to their own specialisations.

However, please note that certain organisations do have special requirements and such requirement, if any, will be indicated in the Pre-requisite section in each of the programme when you search and view the programme online.

So, please read the programme scope and the pre-requisites carefully before making your selection online via ADM website.

Question:

Do I have to select 6 organisations, can I select less than that?

Answer:

Yes, you can select fewer than 6 organisations.  You should only select those organisations which you are intersested to intern with.

Question:

I have been assigned an organisation of my choice in Phase 2, can I appeal for a change in organisation.

Answer:

Once you are allocated to an organisation of your choice, be it your first or last, you would not be able to request for a change. Allowing you  to change, would upset the allocation system and would do injustice to those who have been deprieved of a chance of getting the placement at that organisation, and have subsequently been assigned to other placements at their lower chocie level.  So, please think CAREFULLY when selecting your organisations.

Question:

Is there a minimum allowance for ADM Internship?

Answer:

CAO recommends an allowance of $700 per month. Most organisations pay our students $600 and above. Organisations that pay lower than this amount would be made known to students as a "Remark" when you search/view the programmes online during the selection of organisations for ADM Internship.

Question:

How do the organisations calculate the students' allowance?

Answer:

In general, most company use the following formula: No. of days you work x (Allowance/ No. of Working Days in that month). Eg. if there are 22 working days in a month and you work only 18 days, then your allowance will be $[18 x (600/22)] =$490.90 assuming your allowance is $600 per month.

Question:

Should I be paid for working overtime?

Answer:

Organisations should pay students for overtime or grant students time-off in lieu of overtime payment. This is at the discretion of the organisations.

Question:

When would I receive my allowance?

Answer:

Normally, students would be paid once at the end of the month together with the organisation's permanent staff. However, the timing of payment varies from organisation to organisation.

Question:

Would I be paid if I am on medical leave or approved special leave?

Answer:

It is up to the organisations to decide if students on medical leave or approved special leave will be paid.

Question:

Can I apply for Special Leave for campus activities (such as freshmen orientation camp, church camp, etc)?

Answer:

Please see "Procedures and Assessment System for ADM Internship" for more information on leave matters.  In general, leave will not be granted for camps or ECAs. In fact, students are advised to avoid participating in ECAs which will cause disruption to their internship.

Question:

My organisation supervisor is agreeable to let me go on leave, do I still need to apply for leave through CAO?

Answer:

The correct procedure is to apply leave through CAO. The organisation supervisor is not aware of the conditions for leave application. You must get official approval from CAO before taking leave. Disciplinary actions may be taken against students who absent themselves from work without prior approval from CAO.
