IN-CAMPUS-HOUSING
Please check the availability of the campus housing
with Staff Graduate Accommodation (SGA), email: SGA@ntu.edu.sg, tel. 6790 5189.
Below information is the basic
guidelines on staff housing.
New staff who has just arrived in
Singapore usually stays at the Nanyang Executive
Centre for 2-4 days before moving into an apartment (subject to availability)
located in the staff housing area. A
university staff from SGA department will show the unit (if it is available) to
the new staff in these 2-4 days. New staff will be allocated a
partially-furnished apartment. The furniture in these apartments is quite old
and very basic without any appliances. Fully furnished apartments are reserved
for staff who are here for a short duration.
All
the housing areas have parking spaces, playgrounds and bulletin boards. |
|
Every housing area has its strengths and its weaknesses. Below a few pictures of the campus and some pointers which might assist a new member of staff in making a decision.

Nanyang Heights:
Singles, couples and families with up to two children.
These
high-rise buildings comprise the oldest building cluster with probably the most
people in it. Because there are only two
to three apartments per floor, you can keep your privacy and know your
immediate neighbors very well. It is the
cheapest of all housing and very spacious, although some say it has a lot of
lost space. Nanyang
Heights is the closest to the bus stop, so very convenient when using public
transport or even hailing a taxi.
Nanyang Meadows:
Singles,
couples and families with up to two children
The
high-rise buildings (Blk 98, 100, 102) are built in
1998/9 and were renovated in 2003. Most
apartments have three bedrooms and are for couples and families. The proximity to the sports grounds is convenient,
but also loud for some whose windows face that direction. The apartments have beautiful views and have
lot of day light. It is further away
from high traffic areas and so is very quiet and safe for children. There are six apartments to each floor which
can create more interaction among neighbors.

|
The crescent shaped building (96) is quite remote and close to nature. It has six floors only, with a split level apartment on the top floor of each section. There are no elevators, which makes carrying children and groceries a problem for some. There are also no storage rooms and some find the apartments too dark. The layout of the rooms is the nicest on campus, and some even have a balcony with stairs to the back foot path.
Nanyang Terrace:
Families
with three or more children or with two children and/or staff of associate
position or higher
Probably the first housing for staff, it includes some apartment blocks (two story high) and individual houses. The apartments are for singles, couples and small families and the houses are for families with three or more children or for professors with higher ranking. This housing community is closer to the work place - as well as right behind Nanyang Supermarket and the barber shop. The drawback, of course is that hundreds of students and professors use the street to go to and from classes/work and so it is not exactly very private. The buildings are relatively old, and some might be quite damp, although all with luscious plants and trees.
Nanyang View:
Families
with two or more children and/or staff of associate position or higher
The
queen of all, this community lies at the top of a hill. As the name gives a way, it has a beautiful
view and well kept area. Every building
has four (split level) apartments and as there are relatively few people living
there, many know each other and news travels by word of mouth. The only
downside is that there is no lift in these apartments.
